The French government has commissioned an exploratory definition study on the development of coastal observation and information systems in France. These observation systems are meant to inform ICZM, i.e., they should provide geographic information not only on the state and the evolution of the physical and ecological characteristics of the coastal zone, but also on its social and economic functions and values. The study has started with an inventory of the coastal observation systems presently existing at different regions along the French coast. In the next phase of this study a comparative assessment of the different observation systems will be carried out. The French government would like to extend this comparative assesment to integrated coastal observation systems existing in other European countries. One of the responsible project officers, Mr. Jean Denegre, has asked ENCORA to help finding colleagues from other European countries to exchange information and experience. Therefore he would like to receive contact addresses of persons who are well informed about coastal observation and information systems existing in other European countries.
