The main research activities of the Laboratory of Botany are in the following areas:
• structure, function and differentiation of algal and higher plant cells; the supramolecular organization and function of biomembranes in red algae; effects of heavy metals on the growth and development, fine structure, photosynthetic process and enzymatic behaviour of plants
• bionomy, taxonomy and ecology of marine macroalgae; macroalgae as pollution indices
• taxonomy, biology and ecology of plankton algae in lakes, rivers and coastal seas; analysis of factors controlling biodiversity in phytoplankton communities; anthropogenic nutrient loading changes and blooms of harmful algae; restoration
• toxic algae; algal toxins; photosynthetic processes of algae
• marine microbial food web; phytoplankton primary productivity and bacterial productivity in the sea |
