Capacity Building, Training and Education is part of the ENCORA project a Coordinated Action project under the European 6th Framework Programme for Research and Development. The project aims at establishing a European network structure with new mechanisms for communication on shared problems within and between the communities of coastal science, policy and practice.

The theme includes a survey on capacity building, education and training courses in ICZM, raise a European network for Capacity Building Training and Education, establish an exchange program for students and instructors and produce a European Action Plan.

Capacity building in ICZM under Theme 10 is considered from a twofold perspective:

(1) the training and education of a new generation of coastal professionals based on ICZM principles;

(2) to reorient existing coastal managers; and decision makers, by training them in a more multidisciplinary and integrated manner.
