Definition of Capacity Assessment:
UNDP defines capacity development as "the process through which individuals, organizations and societies obtain, strengthen and maintain the capabilities to set and achieve their own development objectives over time". To support this process effectively, it is important to identify what key capacities already exist and what additional capacities may be required to reach these development objectives. This is where a capacity assessment comes in. A Capacity Assessment is an analysis of desired capacities against existing capacities; this generates an understanding of capacity assets and needs, which informs the formulation of a capacity development response [1].
