Review by Job Dronkers (January 2013)

An important addition to the list of case studies is the OURCOAST database. It provides access to a collection, description and evaluation of a minimum of some 350 ICZM case studies that reflect successful examples of ICZM tools applied throughout Europe. A multi lingual website hosts the ICZM database and provides navigation and information about OURCOAST in ten European languages.

OURCOAST was a three-year project (2009-2011) commissioned by the Directorate General (DG) Environment of the European Commission to support and ensure the exchange of experiences and best practices in coastal planning and management. The project was Carried out by ARCADIS and EUCC, who also delivered a comparative analysis of ICZM experiences leading to an overview of the state-of-the-art by theme and typical success and fail factors.
