The Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (Council Directive 91/271/EEC concerning urban waste-water treatment) was adopted on 21 May 1991. The aim of this directive is to protect the aquatic environment from the adverse effects of [[urban waste water]] and waste water from industrial sectors. The Directive regulates the collection, treatment and discharge of domestic water, mixture of waste water and waste water from certain industrial sectors.
