Definition of Overwash:
Overflowing water that causes erosion of the crest of a dike, barrier or berm.
This is the common definition for Overwash, other definitions can be discussed in the article


The term overwash is also used for the resulting sediment deposit (shaped as a fan or splay) at the leeside of the barrier.
