Definition of Baroclinic:
Presence of density gradients (e.g. stratified fluid).
This is the common definition for Baroclinic, other definitions can be discussed in the article


Baroclinic water flow = water flow driven by density gradients (e.g. by an inclined pycnocline).

Examples: Internal tides, thermohaline circulation.
