Abstract: In this paper, we summarize the main findings of a large-scale contingent valuation (CV) survey conducted after the Prestige oil spill. The main objective of this study is to assess the passive use value lost due to the oil spill. We explicitly consider issues related to survey design and administration. We conclude with a comparison between the welfare results obtained from this survey, and those previously computed in the Exxon Valdez study.
