Definition of Organochlorine pesticides:
Pesticides made out of organochlorine compounds.

They are, chemically produced, bioaccumulative pesticides which include DDT, dieldrin, heptachlor and chlordane. Many organochlorine pesticides are extremely persistent in the environment and in people's bodies. Many types where widely used as insecticide throughout the 1950's and 1960's until they were banned in western countries since the 1970's. Although most are no longer used in the Western countries, many are manufactured there for use in developing countries.
