Summary

Annual fluvial sediment discharge to the coastal ocean according to the classic global inventory of Milliman and Meade (1983[1]). The brown arrows and numbers indicate estimated sediment discharge in million tonnes per year, based on the data and extrapolations available at that time. Blue arrows indicate broad qualitative recent tendencies in sediment discharge, mainly after the satellite-era analysis of Dethier et al. (2022[2]).
